Hubie Halloween: A Trick Or Treat To Watch?
🚨 REVIEW 🚨
Could Hubie Halloween be the one film to save 2020 from being a complete write
off? Probably not, but it can definitely lift your spirits and help you forget
about this disaster of a year for around 100 mins.
Written by the leading man Adam Sandler and Tim Herlihy, light hearted, in your
face humour is a given. Paired with Steve Brill directing and a Halloween
setting, the combination delivers a surprisingly entertaining movie which is
enjoyed best if you don't take it too seriously. I think that's the secret to
this film, accept the ridiculous Swiss Army Thermos Hubie carries round and the
role he plays in the town of Salem (a kind of Halloween watchman), and you'll find yourself laughing regularly
throughout the film. At least I did. With a strong, classic Scooby-Doo vibe, I
can't help but think this film brings out the inner child within the older
viewers, who haven't been entirely left out of this experience, with more
subtle jokes dotted throughout for the more eagle eye'd viewer. Supporting
roles by Kevin James and Julie Bowen are filled well and flesh out the town in
a way you'd expect from this kind of movie. They give more background than
depth, but that's not necessarily always a bad thing. After all, it's an Adam
Sandler comedy, not Pride and Prejudice.
If you're looking for a movie to put you in the Halloween spirit and give you
some laughs at the same time, then I'd probably say this film is for you. Just
don't take it too seriously and you'll find yourself pleasantly surprised.
